Automotive

The automotive industry is known for its exceptionally high standards, both in terms of production quality assurance and the integration of safety-critical technologies in vehicles. Our optical systems are built to meet these demands, delivering precision and reliability for our partners across the automotive sector.

From driver assistance to infotainment, the automotive industry demands maximum precision. DIOPTIC supports you with customized solutions, from system development all the way to quality assurance.

Typical Applications

Over the past decades, the use of optics and sensor technology in the automotive sector has grown rapidly and continues to rise. In manufacturing, for instance, quality control is increasingly performed using machine vision systems. Within the vehicle itself, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) rely on cutting-edge optics and sensors. And the future? Autonomous driving. When it comes to these safety-critical technologies, flawless quality and reliability are non-negotiable. Thanks to our in-house software development, we can also incorporate machine learning and AI for intelligent object classification and detection.

Tailored Solutions

Modern automotive LED and sensor systems are based on optoelectronic technologies that require optimized optical design, precise alignment, and outstanding imaging performance. These include head-up displays that project essential data into the driver’s field of view, as well as camera- and laser-based systems for environmental perception. At the core of autonomous driving lies LIDAR technology: laser-based systems that emit pulses and detect the reflected light. Aligning all components along the optical path is a complex process. DIOPTIC supports customers with alignment and inspection systems for the precise positioning of mirrors and lenses within that path.

Equally critical is the ability of the system to transmit and detect light through the LIDAR cover window without distortion. This requires extremely accurate surface inspection during manufacturing. For such high-precision tasks, DIOPTIC has developed the WAVOS inspection system, designed to meet the most demanding optical inspection requirements in the automotive industry.

LIDAR inspection with DIOPTIC conoscopes

LIDAR inspection with DIOPTIC conoscopes

In advanced driver assistance systems, LIDAR systems must detect objects and their direction of movement within milliseconds. It is crucial that the transmitter unit of the transceiver covers a sufficient angular spectrum; the transmitter and receiver units must be optimally aligned with each other. Our high-quality conoscopes ensure the correct alignment of the respective units as part of the LIDAR test. DIOPTIC's innovative concept can be individually adapted to the specifications of the respective LIDAR system.

Quality Inspection of Optical Protective Covers with WAVOS cap

Quality Inspection of Optical Protective Covers with WAVOS cap

Optical protective covers for LIDAR systems and surveillance cameras must meet the highest quality standards, as even the smallest optical defects can impair sensor performance. WAVOS cap is an inspection system that enables automated, full-surface testing of cylindrical or dome-shaped protective covers. Its 360-degree inspection capability allows for the high-resolution detection and evaluation of angular errors and distortions. This ensures precise quality control directly in serial production. In addition, comparing measurement results to target specifications enables targeted optimization of manufacturing processes, for example, fine-tuning molds in injection molding production. In this way, WAVOS cap supports safe, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing of optical protective covers at the highest level.

Golden Samples for Driver Assistance Cameras and LIDAR Sensors

Golden Samples for Driver Assistance Cameras and LIDAR Sensors

For the calibration and quality control of driver assistance cameras and LIDAR sensors in the automotive industry, DIOPTIC develops golden samples. These high-precision reference systems replicate all relevant properties of the original sensors, including field of view, optical alignment, and mechanical interfaces such as housing geometries. Unlike standard production hardware, golden samples are precisely measured and optically aligned with extreme accuracy. They serve as reliable reference tools in production environments, for example, to calibrate testing and alignment stations, to verify the quality of production components, or to support the setup of new mounting systems during product changeovers in manufacturing lines.
