Metrology

Modern metrology demands the highest levels of precision, reliability, and efficiency, whether in industrial manufacturing, quality assurance, or scientific research. Our application-specific inspection and measurement systems are designed to meet any challenge in terms of accuracy, speed, and scalability.

When developing customized metrology and inspection systems, we combine our deep optics expertise with comprehensive system concepts that feature seamless hardware-software integration.

Typical Applications

Every metrology application has its own unique requirements. Whether the task involves millimeter-sized test objects or large components, random sampling or fully automated batch inspection—what matters most are the specific demands of the measurement task. Metrology and inspection systems also contribute significantly to process optimization: they can be seamlessly integrated into serial production workflows and enable high-level automated quality checks. Machine learning enables intelligent, application-specific quality inspection and defect detection. Where needed, we combine AI with classical image processing algorithms to ensure reliable, calibrated inspection results.

Tailored Solutions

Our measurement systems cover a wide range of applications, from dimensional metrology and quality assurance in serial production to fully automated inspection and alignment of optical systems or assemblies during manufacturing. All system components—metrology and sensors, software, control, and handling—are perfectly synchronized. When inspecting optical components like lenses, mirrors, and glass, or even optical injection molds, our ARGOS matrix systems detect defects as small as 1 µm. Particularly demanding are our test stations designed for optical systems in the semiconductor industry. And this is just a glimpse into the breadth of our metrology solutions.

ARGOS for Camera Cover Glass Inspection

ARGOS for Camera Cover Glass Inspection

Our ARGOS systems provide automated inspection of cover glasses used in industrial cameras. These glasses protect sensitive sensors that are essential for machine vision applications. In metrology in particular, the highest optical quality is crucial, as even the tiniest particles or defects on or beneath the cover glass can cause false readings during image analysis. The challenge: reliably distinguishing between the front and back surfaces of ultra-thin glasses while accounting for background signals caused by the underlying pixels. ARGOS enables stable, repeatable detection and classification of relevant defects, making a vital contribution to quality assurance in the production of high-end optical components.

Custom Alignment and Measurement Systems for Maximum Precision

Custom Alignment and Measurement Systems for Maximum Precision

Our solutions go far beyond standardized alignment and measurement systems. We develop individually configurable systems that combine multiple autocollimators with state-of-the-art optical metrology and high-precision actuators. This enables ultra-precise alignment of even complex lens and optical systems, including in highly demanding applications. <br>The exact calibration of all measurement devices with each other and with the actuators forms the basis for reliable and repeatable results. These systems are complemented by intelligent software solutions and powerful evaluation algorithms that ensure efficient and transparent process control in production environments.

Thermographic Microscope Objectives for Electronics Manufacturing

Thermographic Microscope Objectives for Electronics Manufacturing

DIOPTIC develops high-precision microscope objectives for thermographic applications, where infrared light is transmitted and detected using cooled sensors. This enables the measurement of even the smallest temperature changes with micrometer-level resolution. These objectives are used, for example, in the quality control of electronic components, where accurate thermal analysis of fine structures is critical. Thanks to aspherical elements and specially designed coatings, the objectives achieve excellent imaging performance with infrared transmission rates exceeding 70%.
