In order to carry out precise measurements, the incident light must first be polarized by a polarization film. The cameras are equipped with special sensors that consist of several layers: a microlens array, polarization filter array and finally the image sensor (pixel array).

Another application example is the differentiation of materials based on their reflection. For example, metal can be differentiated from materials such as paper or textiles. Polarization cameras detect the reflected, polarized light of metallic particles, which differs significantly from the polarization behavior of paper or textiles.

In this way, the camera enables precise identification and localization of metal strips within the material, a crucial capability for quality control and product safety.
