Shaping Light for Your Application

We specialize in developing optical illumination components and systems that are tailored to your specific requirements. Our optical modules are designed to achieve maximum performance with minimum installation space, taking into account specific properties such as LED near-field distribution and stray light. We are pleased to assist you in the realization of your product ideas.

Whether room lighting or applications in optical measurement technology – our experts in lighting optics will find the right solution for every task. And we also ensure efficient and production-oriented implementation.

Design of Illumination Optics

When designing lighting optics, it is important to optically lay out the corresponding lighting scenarios and, if necessary, couple them with sensor systems. Depending on the requirements profile, we select the ideal light source or suitable LED light guides, optimize lighting systems with many light sources, and develop free-form optics to meet your needs. Your lighting scenario or product idea is in the best hands with us, whether its room lighting or industrial applications.

Stray Light Simulations

To eliminate system faults or improve the performance of illumination systems and sensors, we have developed concepts for the detailed analysis of scattered light and beam paths. This includes conducting non-sequential stray light simulations, taking optical and mechanical components into account. Based on these tests, existing systems can be evaluated, adjustments to mechanical designs for stray light reduction can be proposed, and ultimately an improvement in the ratio of useful signal to interference signal can be achieved.

“Illumination design requires not only an understanding of color science, human visual perception, but also the ability to model and simulate the flow of light in complex geometries. The field plays a crucial role in areas such as architecture, the automotive industry and the aerospace industry.”

Prototyping and Series Production

Our objective is to provide comprehensive support to customers, from the initial concept to series production. In addition to our development services, we also test concepts with functional models in our in-house laboratory. By employing rapid prototyping methods (e.g., 3D printing and laser cutting), we accelerate the iteration cycle and thus shorten the path to a product ready for series production. Our comprehensive system, process, and method expertise is a significant advantage for our clients.

Homogeneously Illuminated Speedometer Needle

Homogeneously Illuminated Speedometer Needle

It goes without saying that the speedometer needle in a vehicle should light up homogeneously from the center to the tip in the dark. Achieving this result is not a simple process. In a customer project, we successfully increased the efficiency of the illumination system, thereby improving the illuminance of the speedometer needle. The homogeneous illuminance, which remains constant as the needle turns, ensures a high-quality appearance on the dashboard. Our customer was also pleased with the fact that the design, which is suitable for injection molding, can be produced cost-effectively in large quantities.

LED Illumination for Absorption Analysis

LED Illumination for Absorption Analysis

Absorption analysis is a method for analyzing substances contained in a material. The application we are developing involves the absorption analysis of aromatic substances. The substances or molecules contained in the material are determined from the measured absorption spectra, which are illuminated with specific radiation. For the test stand, we have utilized high-performance LEDs to create homogeneous lighting with color selection and individually switchable segments, which is characterized by high irradiance. Furthermore, our design incorporates water cooling to dissipate heat from the high-performance LEDs.

LEDs and TIR Collimators for Operating Room Lighting

LEDs and TIR Collimators for Operating Room Lighting

We developed a custom illumination optic based on total internal reflection (TIR) for use in a glare-free operating light according to the EU standard EN 60601-2-41. The TIR collimator was designed for a selected LED and its specific near-field distribution. Light shaping allows for flat-top, donut or parabolic intensity distributions according to customer requirements. Finally, the specific number and positioning of the LEDs and TIR collimators allowed a high depth of illumination with low shadowing.
